Dumb question
Can someone tell me the origin and meaning of this particular spiral symbol? Besides the obvious spiral, it looks to me like a symbol for the sun. My guess was a pagan symbol about evolution and growth, but since it is offered as one of the letterheads for my e-mail at work I am wondering. The organization I work for isn't exactly pagan! When I googled, I found references for a Celtic symbol of the winter and summer sun, but they didn't have the rays emanating from the spiral.

I used to ask my kids, "Do you know what that means?" and if the answer was no, "Then don't say it." Now that I not only use the symbol in my e-mail but also have bought these earrings, I would like to follow my own rule and find out more about the symbol.

1. Have you looked at symbols.com? (Great symbol research site, BTW)

2. Just my two cents...

I think that the right and left earring are two different symbols... as one is deosil/clockwise and the other widdershins/counterclockwise. I think that because of that, they would be great to wear in ritual use, as they symbolise casting the circle and calling the quarters and then dismissing them. Also the little rays surrounding the symbols to me shows protection and power inside the circle.

They are really beautiful!

PS- your question isn't dumb! If you were dumb, you'd act like you know everything instead of asking a question! (Remember - the wise person is the one who knows what they don't know!)

Blessed be! :hippie:
