Where can I find out more?
The more I hear about Wiccan beliefs and Pagan beliefs, the more intrigued I am. I'd really like to learn about it. Any web site suggestions? :-)

2. A good starting point is Witchvox.com
They have an interesting series of articles each week written by contributors as well as pages with information on the sabbats, beliefs, etc. They also have a section devoted to news that might be of interest to Wiccans and Pagans that allow posting of comments like here at DU. You do have to be a registered user to post, but it is free to register. Additionally, they have listings of groups in the various states as well as stores selling items that are of interest to Wiccans and Pagans. There are a number of good introductory books to Wicca, although get 2 Wiccans together and you will get 14 opinions on what's good and what's not. Honestly, for a basic introduction you could do worse than either the Dummies Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft or the Complete Idiot's Guide.

3. There's a few I can hand you right off.

I have always liked WitchVox, it's a great choice. I also like Wiccan Web, it's Canadian and free from the US media input. Another great place to learn about Wicca is Pentacle Magazine.

There, you now have links to three wonderful places to read and learn about Wicca. Four if you count this forum. Is there anything else you would like to know?

Also, If you are completely new to Wicca, I'd suggest picking up a copy of the book The Spiral Dance by Starhawk. This is in the reclaiming / Feri Tradition. It covers the basics very well.

5. Thanks for the info.
:hi:

I'll definitely take a look at those web pages and books.

I don't really have any specific questions at the moment. Frankly, I don't know enough about it to ask an intelligent question, LOL! Perhaps after learning a bit more, I'll have some. :-)

I may be misinterpreting what I've already heard, but it sounds like it's more about being in tune with nature and finding peace in the world we exist in rather than in some supernatural world. I'm sure I'm oversimplifying it. :P There also seems to be respect for both the male AND the female, which really doesn't exist in the Catholicism in which I was raised (and abandoned years ago). We had the Virgin Mary as our "role model" - which meant you were either a perfect, pristine human being ... or you weren't. There's not a lot of room for the faults and desires that are simply a part of human nature. :eyes:

Anyway, I would like to learn more, so I really appreciate the responses I got from you and our fellow DUers.

Thanks again. :-)

6. I can relate
I also was raised Catholic and I remember being shushed by my mother when questioning the role of women in the bible.

Then, when I was 21 I was looking for books on old celtic religions after my curiosity was aroused by a Morgan LLwellyn novel. I remember the exact moment I realized that everything I ever believed was written down in these books. I wasn't some heretic, insane catholic girl that just needed to go to church again. There were other people that believed as I did, I wasn't alone! It was the best feeling in the world.

Wicca is about faith, about our relationship to our Godess/God and to the world around us. Magick, spells, etc are just a small part of our religion. Something learned at the end, rather then the beginning.

They took our Horned God and turned him into the Devil to help convert the masses. They have spent centuries, demonizing anything related to our faiths because they fear it so badly. They do not want their followers thinking for themselves, because they know if they did, many would leave.
