Ex-con explains "Christians are the first responders!"

Reporters covering the evacuation of New Orleans last week have noticed an interesting phenomenon. People who have lost everything are staying in shelters. And who are running those shelters? Churches.

Christians were the first to arrive on the scene-literally the first responders-the first to help with the devastation in New Orleans, even before the first government assistance arrived. And Christians shouldn't be surprised at this, even if reporters are.

Because throughout history, Christians have been passionate about human dignity. We believe all humans are made in the image of God. This is why Christians throughout history have rescued abandoned babies, fought slavery, and passed child labor laws. Today, we care equally for the mother dying of AIDS in Africa, the six-year-old sex slave in Thailand, and the homeless family in New Orleans...

Christians reaching out to those who suffer offer a tremendous witness to secular observers-a witness to the fact that throughout history, whenever there are people who suffer, it is Christians, just like now in New Orleans, who are the "first responders."

Blantant hypocrasy like this was a major contributor to my descision to reject Chritianity in particular and Religion in general.

How much you wanna bet the most strident proponents of turning all of NOLA into a poor-free gated community are also "movers and shakers" in their local churches?

In the Southern US, where something like 90% of people are Christian, it would be stunning if the majority of first responders were non-Christian.

Absolute must-see TV. About the anti-woman...oops, anti-choice group, the Army Of God.

These people not only admit to being terrorists--they BRAG about it. All their sick fantasies are right out there on display: shooting Supreme Court justices, starting a civil war, blood in the streets in the name of JeBus.

We get to hear from one Regina Dinwiddie of St. Louis, who says she used to be a "feminazi" until JeeZus came into her life.

And Neal Horsley (of the Nuremberg Files web site) with one of his disciples, discussing how women must be "protected." But OTOH, women have to be "stopped" if they want to do something against the will of Gawd. Which is apparently not just abortion, but anything a Gawd-fearing male wouldn't like.

That disciple was a real winner. He took a vow of celibacy and circumcised himself as an adult.

He should have started the circumcision at his neck...

The IMDB says it was made in 1991, but I'm sure I remember watching it in 1987 at SUNY Albany.

One of the funniest scenes (and none of these scenes were staged according to the film makers) is where the clansmen are preparing for their cross burning and an announcement is made over the PA to have everyone move their trucks back because the clan wouldn't be responsible for any damage to the owners' paint jobs from the heat of the fire.

Passionate about human dignity, unless your a non-christian.

Rescued abandoned babies, unless they are abandoned muslims or only if we can convert their young minds.

Fought slavery, true some christians did, but many others also used their religion to support slavery. After all, blacks are not really people, so the bible was not referring to them, and besides the bible, at least the old testament, generally supports slavery.

They were the first responders in the new world, converting indigenous people to christianity, by force. First responders to the middle east to drive out the evil muslim. First responders to attacking homosexuals rights, women's reproductive rights, modern science and secular society as a whole.

Yep, what a bunch of great guys. They live in their own world, and if we are not careful, we will all be living in Jesusland.

9. Putting all cynicism aside...

there is a church on nearly every corner, (figuratively speaking), in much of the bible belt.
There is little social activity for poor people except what they get through a church.
The vast majority of the people consider themselves to be Christians because Christianity can be construed to support whatever views they want.
Many of the church goers are good people, many of whom are Democrats, Liberals, and/or Progressives.
It certainly should be no surprise that the first place many people turn to for help is a church.
Even though I believe all the gods to be imaginary, I applaud the goodness of many of the Christians. They do what they can for whoever needs it.
The main problem is there are not enough of the good hearted Christians to make up for the mis-guided.

Yeah, Chuck. I'm glad you pointed that out 'cause I was really puzzled that so many reporters kept saying "Where are the Christians? It's been four (five, six) days since Katrina made landfall and not a Christian in sight." I'm sure glad you set the record straight. (Whatafuckinasshole!)

Just another disgusting example of Christians portraying themselves into misunderstood, persecuted good-guys.
