And who says nonbelievers don't care? This is Paul Kurtz's update on the SHARE effort to aid victims of hurricane Katrina. I received this as an e-mail this morning.
Thank you for helping us make our SHARE Fund Drive to Assist Victims of Hurricane Katrina a success!!Dear Friends,
Two weeks ago, the Center for Inquiry sent out a plea to friends (subscribers and supporters) for whom we have e-mail addresses, which is only about 15% of our entire list. We invited them to contribute to Hurricane Katrina victims through SHARE, the Secular Humanist Aid and Relief Effort, an organization sponsored by the Council for Secular Humanism.
We are pleased to announce that we have raised just under $70,000 (funds received will be forwarded to Americares). The support has been really outstanding. We cannot thank you enough!
We continue to be deeply distressed by the news coming out of the Gulf States and the City of New Orleans, in particular. The area has been devastated by this terrible tragedy. We understand that it will take a concerted effort by many people to overcome this tragedy and that it will take many years to bring it back to the same vibrancy. So if you have not done so already we would urge you to consider a donation.
The address of SHARE is PO Box 664, Amherst, NY 14226, or you may make your contribution to SHARE online by clicking here. We are donating the funds raised to Americares, a secular charity that has a very small administration fee of 2%. All funds channeled through SHARE are tax deductible in the United States.
We wish to thank you again for partnering with the Center for Inquiry to make this fund drive successful!
Sincerely Yours,
Paul Kurtz
