Just got back from an Atheist Meet Up
Bunch of atheists in the area get together and chat at a restaurant or coffee house. Good time was had by all. Its a good way to form connections in an area that otherwise we don't normally get.

Anyone else do meetups like this?

1. Minnesota Atheists does that regularly.
I've never managed to make it to one, since they are usually way out of my way and I've got kids to worry about. But groups meet at area restaurants and bars for happy hour and whatnot.

I agree, it's nice to have these kinds of socializing events because sometimes it can be so damn frustrating when you're in mixed company and someone starts going off about religious stuff. Don't have to worry about offending anyone with your thoughts on the subject at a meetup!

3. Not me
Maybe it's just my anti-social nature, but I don't see the point. Then again, I live in a place where it's not a problem to be an out atheist.

4. Wow
very nice. I'd like to have a group like this to met once in awhile.

How did this group coalesce? Was it out of an existing network of friends or did atheists somehow make a connection through being atheist and form the group?

5. The atheist groups in Michigan
Are kind of iffy right now. The American Atheist branch here has .... problems for some. The Humanist groups can't get organized. And then there are some of us plotting the dismantling and rebuilding of all the existing structures (muwahahah).

I think this activity was sponsored by one of the newer atheist/agnostic/nontheist spin offs that isn't as concerned about believers as the AA.
