*** What's God Got to Do with It?: Religion and International
Human Rights ***
Roya Hakakian, the celebrated author of Journey from the Land of
No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran, and Judith

radical Islam on women's rights to the resurgence of the
Orthodox Church in post-Soviet Russia and Ukraine.

*** Coming Up in April ***
Cornelia Dean, science editor of The New York Times, will be the
featured speaker at a forum, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 12,
at the New York Academy of Sciences, 2 E. 63rd Street. Dean, the
first woman science editor of the Times, will discuss the
implications of recent remarks by Harvard University President
Lawrence Summers. Summers created a firestorm on the Harvard
campus and within the scientific community by suggesting that an
innate lack of aptitude for science and math might be one of the
explanations for the underrpresentation of women at the highest
levels of mathematical and scientific research.
Dean has also written extensively on the teaching of evolution
in public high schools. To read her articles, visit the archives

Inquiry-Metro New York. The Center for Inquiry, an international
nonprofit organization, was established in 1976 to promote and
defend reason, science and free inquiry in all areas of human
endeavor. Through research, education, publishing and social
services, we offer a positive secularist alternative to an
ethical system based on religion and belief in the supernatural.
We are also deeply committed to upholding the American tradition
of religious liberty, coupled with absolute separation of church
and state, that guarantees the right to practice any faith or no
