Get this book NOW and give it to yourself for Xmas/Hanukkah/Solstice/Grumpy Atheist Freeloading Day, etc.
OK, its Xmas Eve as I write this, so I'm late as usual. But maybe you can snag it in the big After-Xmas sales.
An investigation of Rapture Culture by Radosh, who defines himself as a "Humanistic Jew." That's an interesting self-created label itself. He admits to a mostly atheistic view, while wanting to keep in touch with his historical culture. e.g, Radosh nails a mezuzah outside his door because it reminds him of his heritage every time he walks out.
I'm not finished with his book yet, but I've laughed out loud many, many times while reading it.
A highlight is his phony interview with Stephen Baldwin, using quotes from Baldwin's biography. From memory:
Radosh: You were in the movie "The Usual Suspects," which launched the careers of Kevin Spacey and Benicio del Toro. But you followed it with the Pauly Shore movie "Biodome." Why on earth did you do that?
Baldwin: God told me to make that movie. I did it against the advice of my agents.
Radosh: So you got eternal life in Heaven with Jesus, and Benicio got to bang Scarlett Johansson in an elevator.
Let's call that a draw...
