Here we go again! Obama has picked a minister to lead a national prayer service.

Obama Names Minister to Lead Prayer Service

President-elect Barack Obama has selected the Rev. Sharon E. Watkins to deliver the sermon at the national prayer service that is held the day after the inauguration.

Well thank goodness that Obama has reached out to moderate and liberal Christians to let them know that they're welcome in his administration. I was afraid that after everything he's done to bend over backwards to show support for religious groups he would toss them under the bus as soon as he was sworn in. So glad to be wrong about that one.

Oh, and I almost missed this one:

1. Are prayers really necessary?

Why do we HAVE TO say a prayer at the inauguration and then the day after? Why can't we just take religion out of government completely? Nothing good will ever come from religion being involved with government.

2. Prayers are the best way to let peoplethink they're doing something constructive by doing nothing.

I got an invitation to a facebook group along the lines of 'help so-and-so do something.' It was basically someone asking for money so they could go proselytize in South America, but I remember clearly that it said something like, "Show your support by donating money or through prayer."

I could have joined and left a comment that I was praying for him, but decided against it since lying is against my godless morals.

prayers accomplish nothing, same could be said about religion as a whole. It just leaves you with a false sense of hope and security.

Obama's going to cherry-pick which parts of the Constitution he wants to take seriously.

Won't be long before he expands the "faith-based initiative" crap.

Atheists, right along with GLBT's, can plan on spending the next four or eight years under the bus.
