4. I owned a Charlie Daniels record at one time.
Hate to say it now but I actually liked "Uneasy Rider" when I was a record buying teenager.

IIRC, that record got smashed shortly after he released some dumb-ass song about the "eagle flying low" and went on to praise ronnie raygun for bringing "guts" back to US foreign policy.

Now I place his opinions right up there with Nugent, another no-talent ass clown.

5. Is it just me
or do all the action/country music stars run conservative and high falutin' actors and musicians run liberal? I think that a star's fan base has a lot to do with their stated politics.

7. Not necessarily.
Remember Chely Wright, who sang that nonexistent-god-awful POS song, "Bumper of my SUV?" (Influenced by Wild Turkey one night, I came up with some alternative lyrics suggesting what she could do with that bumper and, in fact, the whole SUV. But that's another story...)

You may also remember a SURGE of support for Wright's song from "Amercian soldiers in Iraq."

That turned out to be bogus. Almost 100% Astroturf. The head of Wright's fan club had its members robo-sending messages, PRETENDING to be Americans in Iraq or their family members. And of course, requesting more airplay for "Liberal Roadkill Under My SUV."

While that was going on, I stumbled on a Nashville chat forum that seemed to be mainly folks who worked in the country music industry.

I expected it to be 100% flag-waving Freeper type defenses of Wright. But it was not. Quite a few posters were definitely of the liberal persuasion. Hell, the attacks on $hrubCo almost made it sound like DU.

This was a long time ago, but the forum is probably still around. I'm too busy/lazy to go looking for it right now, unfortunately.

8. The Doofus Went Down To Georgia

Daniels also recorded "Still In Saigon." Which, in his case, should have been re-titled "Never In Saigon."

Yes, like Dick Cheney and so many other right-wing Professional Flag-Wavers, Daniels never served in the military.

To his credit, during the 2004 election, Daniels said because he had never bothered to join up himself, he had no right to criticize Kerry's service record. (I didn't know that. It's in the Wikipedia article.)

Huh? I thought that was George Bush's job.

than to have read that tripe.

Remember, kiddos: when your career has been in the dumper for 20-odd years, become a liberal hatin', gun totin' virtual keyboard kommando soldier first class for AMERUKA!!! woot!

I love the worn out "atheism is a belief or religion" trope. Some things never change.

16. The fact that it is usually served with a "even scientists have faith!" chaser makes it that much
more annoying. I always want to say "Here's a free sample from the clue factory, folks: Scientists find the most rational belief based on the available evidence, not claim to be certain about everything forever."

I think I'll convince a bunch of fundies of that very sentiment tomorrow, right after I invent cancer-curing eyebrow-waxing robots that run on unlimited free energy.
