Horrific Brazil Rape Story: How Did The Catholic Church Handle It?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jlDUCNvtd4&feature=channel_page

NOTE: The Video is NOT graphic, but you may want to ear-muff the kids for the audio depending.

This is one of those stories that disgusts and angers you simultaneously.

4. The Bishop's evil blathering went like a lead balloon.
He was almost universally despised, with the exception of a very tiny and very noisy minority of loons, mainly on Orkut communities.

Hell, if you look that up on Free Republic, 90% excoriated the bastard, even THERE.

5. I'm more interested in what ordinary Catholics are handling it
That the Catholic hierarchy is disgustingly inhumane is hardly surprising. Is the Pope Catholic? I care more about what ordinary Catholic churchgoers are doing to tell the church that their actions in this case were unacceptable. In the various DU threads I've read about the case, I've seen a fair number of posters saying "as a Catholic, I'm disgusted by the church", but expressing your displeasure anonymously in a mostly non-Catholic venue won't achieve very much. Have I missed a lot of posts where Catholics describe how they're putting pressure on the church over this case? Or is everyone just trooping meekly back to church on Sunday and pushing that kid's plight to the back of their mind?
