They replied to my response and said the new heading would be "Science and Skepticism." I opined that it belonged there rather than R&T because it wasn't a religion and was very skeptical.

We'll likely be moved to another heading under DU Groups. It's just a way of sorting things out and making pages a little less confusing for newcomers.

We'll still have our dusty little intellectual ghetto.

This will still be a protected group. It'll just be organized underneath the Science and Skepticism label. The only thing that's changing is the hierarchial classification.

I don't have any real problem with this. And while atheism does not equate to skepticism and vice versa, atheism is a naturalistic world view and a skeptical stance on theistic beliefs so it kinda fits. That's the problem with hierarchial classifications, of course. Not everything fits neatly into a single box. Still, as long as the functionality of the group remains unchanged I don't see anything wrong with it. It may also make it easier for people who are interested to find this group.

But I will admit I was confused at first reading EarlG's post. They are reorganizing the structure of the groups - only a few very minor groups are being dropped.

We used to have to pass thru the religious/woo groups just to find the Atheists. Ick.

Then back out and go into the other sub-group to hook up with the Skeptics.

Now both are in the same place, like a big ol' Wal-Mart for smart-asses.

Much easier for us lazy people.
