DVR Notice! Giant servings of ham, corn and cheese!
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 01:22 PM by onager
Left Behind and Left Behind II: Tribulation Force are playing back-to-back for several hours this morning on cable.

On my Time-Warner cable system, Channel 160 (The Gospel Channel).

Starring noted evolution expert Kirk Hameron and a cast of veterans from suppository commercials.

On edit: another good show this weekend was on CNBC's American Greed - the story of pyramid-scheme preacher Abraham Kinnard, who ripped off hundreds of black churches. And destroyed many friendships, since he used other preachers as front men to sell his product.

"For every $3,000 you invest with me, you will get $500,000 back! It's not me doin' this miracle, it's GAWD!"

Jebus. I fear for our species when I see things like this...

The Kinnard story was paired with a totally unrelated, secular and sadder story: the 1990 art theft at the Gardner Museum in Boston. $300 million in irreplaceable art gone, and never recovered to this day. Including 3 Rembrandts (one a self-portrait), Vermeer's The Concert etc.

1. "and a cast of veterans from suppository commercials"

My wife and I watched parts 1-3 when they were showing a few weeks ago on TBN or some other such channel. We had a lot of laughs over the fact that so many people actually take that shit seriously and believe it's going to happen. (What's less amusing is how many people are screwing up the world trying to make it happen) "Ham, corn and cheese" is right.

3. Oh, it'll be around again!
TBN usually runs these things 24/7 during the Xmas season. Along with other atrocities, such as Megiddo: Omega Code II.

There's a whole sleazy and fascinating story about the release of Left Behind. Before it came out, the Fundies were whooping and hollering about making it a big hit in movie theaters. Millions would come out of curiosity and be converted! A movie that would change the whole world!

The distributors took one look at this barking dog and (wisely) dumped it straight to video/TV.

Xians were outraged. The producers demanded a theatrical release and IIRC eventually got it, even though no distributor wanted to touch it by that time, and it made about $1.98 in box office receipts. Which, to be fair, probably covered its total production costs.

Look around the web, and you'll see the Xers blaming Satan for this whole imbroglio.
