Xenu getting hammered, X-post from R&T
I know some of you avoid R&T like you avoid Mormon missionaries, and for good reason. So I'm cross-posting it here FYI.

$cientology is having a VERY bad week:

Director Paul Haggis ("Crash," "Million Dollar Baby") quits the "church" after more than 30 years of membership.

Reason: the San Diego $cientology org help pass Proposition (H)8:

Also - During a Nightline interview, Co$ spokes-thing Tommy Davis ripped off his microphone and stormed off the set. (Davis is actress Anne Archer's son.)

Reason: host Martin Bishir asked him about Xenu and the volcanos:

“Martin, I am not going to discuss, the disgusting perversions of Scientology beliefs that can be found now commonly on the internet, and be put in the position of talking about things for ah, ah, ah, that, ah, talking about things that are so, fundamentally offensive, to Scientologists to discuss.”

Oh, and in even MORE bad news, the St. Petersburg (FL) TIMES just ran a 3-part series on abuses of the cult:

2. And now they're convicted of fraud in France:
The case came after complaints from two women, one of whom said she was manipulated into paying more than 20,000 euros (£18,100) in the 1990s.

France regards Scientology as a sect, not a religion.

Prosecutors had asked for the group's French operations to be dissolved and more heavily fined, but a legal loophole prevented any ban.

Instead, a judge ordered the Church's Celebrity Centre and a bookshop to pay a 600,000 euro fine.

Alain Rosenberg, the group's head in France, was handed a two-year suspended jail sentence and fined 30,000 euros.
