Another bunch of "They're not true Christians" posts
In this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6947123&mesg_id=6947123

For me, the irony is that, seeing Christianity from the outside all my life, I can see the obnoxious people described in the original post as very much true Christians. They are much more the public face of the religion than the nice people are.

1. That's been my experience too.
No doubt there are liberal, kind, human rights-supporting Christians in abundance. But the narrow-minded, biblical literalist, intolerant kind is far more common. Liberal Christians seem to have a real problem with even acknowledging that fact.

2. One of my main gripes about mainstream Christians
is the way they've always given tacit approval to the hate filled lunatics in the name of some sort of fake Christian solidarity.

I like seeing posts like this that show some of them are starting to wake up out of their "Well, we're not perfect, churches are hospitals for sinners and not museums for saints, blah blah blah" stupor.

It's about bloody time. Maybe they'll take the next step, but I doubt it.

3. Of course
Makes it easy to ignore and discount the atrocities they commit in the name of Christianity and their "deeply held religious beliefs".

4. One of them took issue with my mocking that position in another thread on the same topic.
Funny stuff.
