Who went to church today?
In a broader context, how often do the rest of you as non-believers attend church.

The obvious answer would be never, but I go 1-2 times a year, christmas and/or easter. Do I want to go? Meh. But it makes my mom happy, and she's never been one to force belief on me. So why upset her for no reason? And I do like hymns.

I understand that many other people had a less pleasant break from religion; I'm just curious about everyone's thoughts

12. If it's a wedding, I send a gift and my regrets
If it's a funeral, I send food and my regrets.

Poor health is a ready excuse to duck nearly every religious occasion.

2. I can't remember the last time I was in a church
Oh, wait, I do remember, it was when a preacher (ex-wife's idea) was telling us we couldn't get married in his church because she was pregnant. He had no problem marrying us outside the church, though. :eyes:

6. he ended up
mentioning the pregnancy in his prayer. That got some eyerolls from the crowd.

I really didn't want a religious ceremony, but both families were insistent. When I married Haele, we did it in a courthouse the way Darwin intended.

7. i have often wondered
how to deal with a religious significant other. Granted, at the moment I have none, but I can't help but think about "what if."

religious wedding? wouldn't give too much of a shit. Baptism of a child... uh, getting very uncomfortable. Church attendance for the child. No. And CERTAINLY no Sunday School.

But at the same time, would I have the right to say so? Not that she would have the right to impose religion either.

A conundrum. But a bridge i'll cross if and when I cross it

8. I won, in the end
She ended up marrying a good Christian who put her in the hospital. Then she lived with a good Christian who wouldn't marry her because it was a sin to get divorced (RCC type). Then he influenced her to give up custody, so I got my daughter.

Now she's married to yet another guy, is even more Christian, and my daughter is a good atheist and skeptic.

Scoreboard.

4. Not often.
I'll do weddings and funerals.

I won't do christenings, confirmations, Xmas or Easter, or anything else.

9. No, I just read R/T. Same difference...
:banghead:

And just for my own amusement, I got into a historical pissing contest about the Romans again, with ol' Googlus Maximus.

13. Deadings and weddings only here
No reason otherwise, my immediate family ('rents and siblings) are all atheists and the belivers all live in the midwest far away.

The polling place for my precinct is in a local god-hole.

16. LOL, my polling place is in a bar
But they can't sell booze on election days, so it's pretty useless.

19. I'd like to be a poll worker at that location.
Polls close, taps open.

After a 14 hour day working the polls I could use a drink.

It makes sense to put an otherwise empty establishment to use as opposed to a church that is always useless.
