How often do you get told you're going to Hell?
Last week it was the carpenter that I detailed, who repeats crap from Fox Snooze.

He said, "You're not going to heaven if you worship Buddha and meditate".

My response: "Well first of all you don't know what you're talking about. Buddha is NOT a god. He never said he was a god; he was a man who was awake. You don't have to believe in god to be a Buddhist".

His response: "ohhhhhhh...."

:grr: :banghead:

And this was a few months after the neighbor woman saw my ancestor altar, crossed her forearms to keep the bad juju away and said "Buddha! Voodoo! Buddha! Voodoo!".

I gave the stupid bitch a five minute speech about who Buddha was, but it did no good.

:grr: :banghead:

She's the one that thought her sago palm was dead, after the fronds died, and carpenter guy told her it was alive and would come back. So her hubby chopped it up and burned it. It was the most valuable thing they owned.

Idiots.

:banghead:

1. I'm sure that among a lot of other curses on a daily basis.
I'm a trucker. :D

But it's been a long time since someone told me that to my face. I think the last time was when a couple of door to door Jesus salesmen came a-knockin about 5 years ago. I don't find myself in those types of situations very often, though, and when I do I usually keep to myself. I guess I need to be more sociable. :)

2. Quite often actually...
my sister is a schizophrenic uber-christian who is fond of telling me that. Oh that and at my last job when I went to a Marilyn Manson concert.

3. Oh god, I run into the same BS. The Buddha was a human being, not a god, you idiots!
Edited on Thu Jun-10-10 07:01 PM by Odin2005
The fact that many superstitious East Asians DO treat him as a god doesn't help matters (Superstitious Mahayana BS gives Siddhartha Gautama's teachings a bad name...). I've run into New Ager idiots who can't comprehend an Atheist Secular Humanist also being a Buddhist. :banghead:

6. Not even once
not face to face, at least. Of course I've been told I'm going to hell collectively, but no one has pointed to me and said it.

I don't live in a very fundie area. Religious, yes, but not fundie. I grew up Lutheran, and generally they're rather uncomfortable with big, loud displays of religion (though that's changing, with the rise of the religious right). Religion generally isn't talked about.

I WAS told that I was a torchbearer of ignorance when I said that I thought new-age philosophy was bunk. I called them a fascist, and blocked them on Facebook :D

8. Not since I left my fundie homeland
where every sentence begins with: "I'm a Bible-believing Christian, but--" In my youth I was warned many times that I would burn in hell, usually by horny boys who were imagining me naked while I was on fire. Sick fucks. But, they do love some Jesus!

9. I was told a few times as a kid.
But not as an adult. I've been told "we'll see who's right in the end" a few times, but that's just kind of a pussy way of saying, "Crap! My preaching is just bouncing off his brain!"

I'm not even a strict atheist either; I'm more of an agnostic. However, I do find myself getting more atheist the more I argue with bible thumpers.

11. It's a journey, alright.
I like living in an area where tolerance is both preferred and practiced. I rarely get angry any more, but neither do I allow proselytizers to waste too much of my time.

12. Not very often, actually
because even asshole fundies seem to get the idea pretty quickly that they won't like the result if they try it.

I'm actually quite pleasant, "I knew god was dead, but I hadn't realized you'd gotten the job. Congratulations!"

13. Not much anymore.
But back in the 80's, when the fundies would picket all the heavy metal concerts in L.A., I'd get told multiple times on a weekly basis.

Ah, good times.

14. I Started Using This Comeback...
...a long time ago...I just look the individual in the eye and pause for a second; then I work up a really nasty look and say, "I'm already IN hell." Sometimes I can actually keep a straight face. Keep your responses below 12 syllables and you'll do okay with uh, you know, *those* people. They will never understand the true power of the dark side!!!

15. I had an idea
just shake your head and say, "when there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth..."
