I think we need a thread for lurking theists.

Since this group has been trolled for juicy quote-mining opportunities more than once and various DUers have referenced posts here as proof of whatever moronic idea they're arguing, I'm thinking we should just make it easy for them and just keep a thread kicked with stuff that's easy to quote-mine or recontextualize.

What do you all think?


Note to lurking theists: I'd appreciate your input as well. Do you think that you'd benefit from such a thread? PM me if you'd rather keep your presence secret. I won't share it with the group.

I only get irked when they lurk, then alert on the posts in a GROUP. I've seen some pretty bad stuff about us in their groups, but I wouldn't think of alerting on it.

Ditto for stuff carried from the Skeptics group back to the SpEsHul PowerZ groups and whined about.

I've never alerted on anything, for that matter. But I think groups especially should be a sanctuary where people can blow off steam and say whatever they want, pretty much.

not necessarily to go into other groups trolling for outrages, but if someone breaks a rule (eg a personal attack), we usually won't see it unless someone hits alert. DU long passed the stage where the mods could read every post, after all.

8. I totally agree about groups

I'm not a big fan of the restrictions on "calling out" (which it really rarely is here) and "rallying the troops" (which again, it rarely is here) but I understand the shitstorms that are the genesis of such rules.

11. I like "New Atheist"

as a term for theists. Theists are atheists when it comes to pretty much every god ever dreamt of, so calling them "new atheists" reflects the majority of their positions and separates them from "old" or "traditional" atheists who don't believe in any of them.

All that's missing is using "new accomodationist" for the "traditional atheists" who wish they could be more like the "new atheists." Many "new accomodationists" are now known as faitheists, which I prefer, but sometimes change isn't easy.
