1. It's taken a serious toll on him
and there are times I think the treatment is worse than the disease, especially when the prognosis is so grim.

I don't fault him for taking the chance. I just wish he didn't feel like hell for taking it.

4. Of course many people who believe in god
get exactly the same thing. Seems like in the real world, you're fucked either way. So why not just sleep in Sunday morning?
