Pope Ratzenberger/Benedict heavily implies that the Holocaust was an atheist campaign
http://bengoldacre.posterous.com/nazi-youth-pope-aligns-atheists-with-nazis-bi

This is an excerpt from his official letter to "Her Majesty", the Queen of England:

Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live. I also recall the regime’s attitude to Christian pastors and religious who spoke the truth in love, opposed the Nazis and paid for that opposition with their lives. As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the twentieth century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus to a “reductive vision of the person and his destiny” (Caritas in Veritate, 29).

One of the Pope's aides had to resign because he referred to multicultural London as "a third world country".

5. Horrible, considering that Catholics like "Father Coughlin" were vehement Jew haters

15. Coughlin was an early Holocaust denier, as well.
I thought the Wiki article might mention his association with Father Denis Fahey. Fahey was another uber-Catholic asshole who started claiming the Holocaust never happened as soon as WWII ended. Coughlin was an early supporter/follower of Fahey.

Nope. There was a mention in one of the footnoted Wiki articles, "The Coughlin-Fahey Connection."

FYI, History Channel is currently re-running "Nazi America - A Secret History." It didn't mention Coughlin either, but it mostly concentrated on organized pro-Nazi groups like the German-American Bund. Google the title and you can watch it on YouTube.

16. Yes, I remember the documentary on the German-American Bund.
I suppose that there was an arguement to keep the US out of the war. The real oppostion was that Republican politicians like Senator Taft from Ohio just wanted to counter President Roosevelt's foreign policy. (much like today).

The antiwar groups were helped because the newspapers did not report on the unfolding Holocaust.

6. That's okay, you were speaking for me
In a way, we should probably be grateful Ratzinger got to be pope; the man's done more damage to the Roman Catholic church than a battalion of Richard Dawkinses could.

he hated religion. Why just synogogues?

19. It was all part of his sophisticated atheist plan.
By targeting only synagogues, he knew he would make foolish atheists in the future think he was a Christian. Only the smartest Christians would see through his ploy and recognize the truth. Which was also part of his plan, to promote Christianity and make atheists look like fools. Because he himself was an atheist and therefore wanted to discredit atheism. Yeah, that's it.

20. Now we know who our friends aren't...
Reference to R/T this weekend, in case y'all didn't guess.

Heck, that forum deserves to be an Olympic event, with all the gyrations the Usual Suspects went thru to defend Pope Panzer. While, of course, bashing atheists.

And the next time I see "atheists killed 50/100/130 million!!!," I'm going to play by their (apparent) rulebook and demand a full account of exactly who killed those 130 million and where. With the all-important links and cites.

For no good reason except the juxtaposition of these items tickled me - here's the TV lineup yesterday morning from KDOC in Orange County, CA:

8:00 - Lift Up Jesus (no need, the Romans already did that)
8:30 - Free Grill! (infomercial)
9:00 - Catholic TV Mass (another infomercial)
9:30 - Disney Storybook Vacations (how can Catholic TV Mass compete with THAT?)

21. sometimes it frightens me
how quickly people will turn on atheists. That's when you realize all their talk about tolerance and "true Christians are kind" stuff is just bullshit armor against criticism.

I wouldn't be that surprised to find that, if a law punishing atheism was passed, many liberal Christians would find a weaselly way to justify it. "Well, fundamentalist atheists are just as bad as fundamentalist theists!!!!!!1"

I'm generally pretty tolerant of others religious beliefs..but the amount of so called liberal believers on this board DEFENDING that asshole Ratzinger is just astonishing. At least I can probably count on my Jewish friends to not do that.
