1. BWAHAHAHA!
Waaah! No one else likes eating and drinking Jesus' flesh and blood to appease a wrathful desert god but me. Everyone else wants to spend their time smoking, gambling, and objectifying women.

:nopity:

Love it.

2. Thanks! Some good comments.
Jeremy, San Francisco, Ca - As an atheist who served I can tell you the military shoves religion (christianity) down your throat every chance they get. Every ceremony has a prayer. It is ridiculous. Some of us were there to serve our country, not your god. Religious people need to get over themselves. If it works for you, great, but quit trying to force it on the rest of us./i]

3. Will, from California:
I've known several soldiers who've found their atheism strengthened or confirmed while in foxholes. One perfectly reasonable existential response to the horrors of war is to consider it a compelling argument against the existence of God or "wasting time" in church. If there are more atheist or irreligious troops these days, perhaps we need some atheist chaplains? An atheist soldier in a combat zone doesn't have any less need for spiritual guidance than their religious comrades, and they may not find tactical Bibles or a God-fearing chaplain's approach helpful.

---
What is spiritual guidance for a young soldier fearing death? I think of it in terms of nature or kindness. Of course, I don't think in terms that most people do.
