Jeremiah 10:2-5 (JPS)
Thus said the Lord:
Do not learnt to go the way of the nations,
And do not be dismayed by portents in the sky;
Let the nations be dismayed by them!
For the objects that the nations fear are delusions:
For it is the work of a craftsman's hands.
He cuts down a tree in the forest with an ax,
He adorns it with silver and gold,
He fastens it with nails and a hammer,
So that it does not totter.
They are like a scarecrow in a cucumber patch,
They cannot speak.
They have to be carried,
For they cannot walk.
Be not afraid of them, for they can do no harm;
Nor is it in them to do any good.
It does sound kinda like idols instead of Christmas trees, but since Christians don't use the kick-ass JPS translation. The King James Version is as good as any.
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
That sounds more like Christmas trees...
I guess no TRUE Christian decorates at all.
