Is it possible to have a genuine conversation in R&T?
After hundreds of posts on the subject, a poll is posted that fails to include the definition he was disputing in the first place. Followed by the willful ignorance of the protests. How can one expect to have a genuine conversation with people who are so disingenuous? Or is it just me?

What. the. fuck?

1. No.
I go there mainly to expose believers' hypocrisy and confront religious bigotry against non-believers. It's a little depressing that there's such an abundance of both on a liberal site like DU.

3. They can't win the game on a neutral field.
They know this.

So they set up the rules and field to specs that benefit them. Their goalposts are wider and mobile. Ours are a foot apart. They get 8 downs to move the ball for a first down. We get 2. They don't get called for penalties. We get called for roughing on a basic tackle. And so on.

What frustrates the hell out of them is that we still win.

I mean it LITERALLY went like this.

A: I think atheism means "X"
B: No, it doesn't, it means "Y"
A: Nobody thinks it means "Y" look at all the dictionary definitions.
B: They're stupid. Atheists mean "Y" when they use the word.
A: I don't believe you. I can't do a poll though.
(Goblinmonger foolishly gives in to the Xtian holiday and gifts a star--I know, you can beat me later)
A: Here's a poll: Does atheism mean "X" or "Z"?
(time passes)
A: See, atheists don't believe it's "Y", they think it's "X"
B: You didn't even give "Y" as an option.
A: I don't understand what you mean.

Sweet Jesus it really should be physically painful to be that ignorant.

ETA: I really need Evoman to write my screenplays for me.

12. Only if your intent is to lavish in privilege and the status quo.
Being the type who sees the status quo as a bad thing, I go there to confront it and challenge the undeserved privilege believers enjoy. Unfortunately, the only way to do this without folding before the hand begins is to just point out hypocrisy, faulty reasoning, and mock those who need it.

15. I brought up a richarddawkins.net article giving evidence that Hitler was a creationist.

and explicitly brought up the No True Scotsman fallacy in the OP as a joke.

And what's the very first reply? An instance of the No True Scotsman fallacy.

It's amazing - the theists will call Hitler an atheist, over and over, with no real evidence other than "No real Christian would do what Hitler did!" and demand that we be respectful, but when we point out Hitler's own words professing his Christian faith, they go apeshit!

16. I trolled you
The Hitler/Stalin discussions are equivalent to bomb throwing. It just devolves into a body count match, at the expense of historical understanding.

17. There are a few believers there who are capable of it
but they're damned few and they seldom bother posting in there.

Most of the time I avoid that particular forum unless either they've tried to define me in their own terms or I'm terribly bored.
