I'm A Believer!

The new Ad Campaign for Detroit!

I saw the billboard this AM on the way into work.

Just a huge photo of our mayor with the star
that says "I'm A Believer".

:puke:

Have a Blessed Day.

The TEN MILLION dollar ad blitz is being
"donated" to the city.

I smell church money behind this.

The campaign has local celebrities
saying "I'm a Believer".

Watch the video for a real treat.

3. One of my friends (also an atheist) thinks I'm overreacting...
He doesn't see any "religious overtones" in the
campaign.

He lives in the city and has worked with people
involved in the campaign, including the woman
who created it.

I don't see how you CAN'T see the religion in
this.

I find it alarming and we are being inundated with it.

However....my first love WAS Davy Jones, and it
never bothered me when HE warbled about believing!

4. Ever been to Detroit?
It needs help. I see nothing wrong with the campaign to help improve it. And I see nothing that even hints at religion in the ads.

A DUer posted this link a while back. Stunning pictures of what has happened to Detroit:

I LIVE here.

You don't think billboards that say "I'm a Believer"
doesn't "hint" at religion?

And I don't need "stunning pictures" from the UK...

Here's my old house:

I know Detroit needs help, I just object to this
particular ad campaign implying that the help will
be DIVINE.

7. I must have missed the part
implying that the help will be divine. I'll go look again.

I don't have personal pictures of Detroit - much less one of a former home of mine with a board over the door. Sad.

6. To be fair, this seems to have some solid plausible deniability.
"I'm a believer..." ...that we, citizens of Detroit, can turn this city around with ingenuity and hard work.

Of course, from where I live, I get zero context, so I may be way off base.

8. It has celebrities local politicians asking "I'm a Believer, Are You?"

...the "in Detroit" is a pretty much
an asterisk in the design.

I put an example of their billboards up in the second post,
in the video in the first, you can see the TV spots and billboards.
