Thoughts on graduation cap and gown
Edited on Sat May-07-11 01:12 PM by Ninjaneer
They are dead ugly and I have yet to meet anyone who thinks they're attractive. I was forced to wear one a few days ago when I graduated. I looked into it some and apparently the origin of the gown/cap is religious, since back in the day most institutions of higher learning were of the religious type. I'd rather have worn a suit. Leave it to religion to be the source of the ugliest traditions.

1. The universities themselves originated around cathedrals and monasteries.

8. Well would you look at that.
You posted in a group to which you clearly do not belong, and nobody told you to shut up, to get out, or that your opinion was worthless because your beliefs were incompatible.

I wonder if you'll learn anything from that?

5. The only one I was forced to bother with was high school
and the rental company made a mistake and instead of tolerable gray, we got these silver metallic things. We looked like a herd of shiny elephants. Girls were dressed like lampshades under them and boys were choking in ties.

I managed to duck kindergarten, grammar school and college through measles, changing schools at an opportune time, and simply refusing to go because I was a grownup and could.

9. I just think
that they should offer the option to wear either the gown or suit. Why should anyone have to forgo attending a celebratory event that they are entitled to just because they dont agree with the ridiculous dress code.

6. They are such so ONLY graduates would wear them.
If they were passably attractive then everyone would wear one and then how can you tell who's graduating?
