2. I've got a bad case of the "I told you so"'s
And I don't feel bad about that at all. If people want to be stupid and ignore the warnings about the stupidity, I'm not going to shut up when the stupid is shown to be real.

3. Yeah, that one reporter really pissed me off.
Tiffany Whatever, whose article was quoted over in R/T. "It's CRUEL to make fun of these people."

That woman needs to get herself a good job in P.R. or advertising. But with her wimpy attitude, she shouldn't be allowed in a job anywhere near the news media. Except maybe Fox News, which is nothing but P.R./advertising.

Back in 1977, two reporters at New West magazine started investigating Rev. Jim Jones. They had reports from many disgruntled ex-church members, warning that Jones was a drug-addled megalomaniac who was getting crazier all the time. They had documented proof that he was ripping off Social Security and the welfare system. They had people who had been publicly beaten in church services. They had people Jones had (literally) screwed of both sexes.

But Jones enjoyed massive political protection, much of it from liberal Dems who liked his church's social programs. Generally, the San Francisco media treated him with kid gloves.

A little more "cruelty" in that case might have saved about a thousand lives. But NO - the subject was religion, so everybody had to automatically show RESPECT!!! and lay off the poor believers at the People's Temple.

I know I'm preaching to the converted (heh). But this really yanks my chain.

5. Empathy for what?
Willful ignorance deserves no empathy.

6. I hope my R/T post doesn't come across as sanctimonious
For me, this past weekend was a bitter reminder of my childhood, and I just didn't feel like revelling in others misery. At the risk of dumping on everyone on A/A, I think mocking and ridicule has its place, but last weekend is going to lead to misery to lots of kids. I just can't find any humor in it.

Needless to say, I've been quite miserable for the past couple of weeks. Hopefully, I can get over it soon.
