Discussing limitations in the application of NTS.
What does everyone think of this possible limitation on the application of NTS to religious adherents?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101002150948AAEkFpc

"The reason the NTS fallacy is misapplied in the case of religion, and particularly Christianity, is simply because, unlike "Scotsman", there is no universally accepted definition of a "Christian". The most widely followed sect of Christianity is Catholicism, yet many non-Catholic Christians claim that Catholics are not true Christians."

1. That's not a limitation.
It makes perfect sense, as I explained to a believer in an R/T thread. The fact that the fallacy illustrates is that there's no such thing as a "true X", because "true" is an unqualified modifier.

There's no such thing as a "true Christian", just like there's no such thing as a "true Scotsman." What defines whether someone is a Christian, due to the nature of the label, is whether they self-identify as such, that's all.
