Today in hateration news: people really, really don't trust atheists. In a new study, the only group participants found as untrustworthy as nonbelievers were rapists.

In another experiment, researchers asked what jobs the subjects would hire atheists to perform. Lead study author Will Gervais discusses the results:

People are willing to hire an atheist for a job that is perceived as low trust, for instance as a waitress. But when hiring for a high-trust job like daycare worker, they were like, nope, not going to hire an atheist for that job.

you can't be trusted. If you're able to figure right from wrong on your own you're somehow more suspect than the people who have to stop and pray (or consult their holy book) before they decide if it's OK to beat the shit out of that guy, or rape that woman.

3. We are like a "cult" in their eyes...

...something they fear and do not understand. It is like Robbie the Robot from the Forbidden Planet movie...when he was given the order to kill a human (which was against his programming) and his circuits started to fry. That is what a believer does when you question their faith or have an opinion that differs from theirs. It also happens when you place some scientific evidence in front of them which goes against one of their books.

This is why I call them Jeezoids.

i have actually witnessed my Jesus-freak ooops ---I mean Yeshua and Yahweh-freak sister cover her ears, turn off her hearing aids and yell LALALALALLALALALLALALALA in between the ramblings about Obama being a secret moooslim. I know I should be more understanding, since she is mentally ill, but I can't tell where the mental illness ends and the religious zealot begins, because the meds help most every other aspect of her illness except for the part where I am an evil heathen and will receive the wrath of gawd that all non-believers deserve. 5. Proof again that critical thinking and reality based perception finds no ground in this country.

Okay, here's one for the whack-job Fundies: didn't your perfect God give you a brain with which to draw conclusions from the world around you? Didn't Jehovah give you the ability to question and think? Why would you waste such a gift from God?

Seems like religion will give you all the easy answers you ever wanted, if you sacrifice and relinquish intellectual control.
