For your heathen rug-rats...
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 09:15 PM by onager
I stole this from the GD thread:

...Providing a haven for the children of nonbelievers is what Camp Quest is all about. As the camp's official T-shirt announces, it's a place that's "beyond belief." More precisely, it claims to be the first summer sleep-away camp in the country for atheist, agnostic and secular humanist children.

Nearly two million American adults openly identify themselves as atheist or agnostic, according to a 2001 survey by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. As a group, they face more than their share of bigotry, said Edwin F. Kagin, Camp Quest's longtime director, and their children are often made to feel like outcasts.

Good story, but somebody gave it one of the stupidest headlines ever. They always just HAVE to work in a slap at non-believers, don't they?

The headline: Summer Camp That's a Piece of Heaven for the Children, but Please, No Worshiping

2. Check out the Unitarian Church summer camps.
Consult www.uua.org to find a congregation near you, and call them. They'll have info on summer camps in your area.

They're based on the UU Seven Principles and aren't worship-centered, at all.

The Seven Principles:

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote

* The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
* Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
* Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
* A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
* The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
* The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
* Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

3. "Nearly two million American adults...
...openly identify themselves as atheist..."

(and about 20 million more are still in the closet!)
