5. He provided me with the only line I ever repeat from Star Trek:
"I cannae change the laws of physics!"

Plus, he also provided the longest and best laugh I have ever had from Star Trek, in one of the films. He and some other crew members are running through the corridors of the Enterprise, and someone criticises his route. "Rubbish!" he says. "I know this ship like the back of my hand!"

With perfect timing, the group rounds a corner and Scotty is laid flat by a low pipe. Brilliant.

Nice guy too.

He died with the unalloyed affection of millions. That's a real achievement.

that his wife plans to send his ashes into space.
