Poll question: atheist or agnostic?
I'm a relatively newbie to this group & after reading a lot of posts & responding to a few, I've come to the conclusion that most posters in here are atheists. I consider my self an agnostic I don't know & you don't either. Please excuse me if this has been covered before, I assume it has.

2. is that a choice?
Agnostic = without knowledge

Atheist = without belief

I would say that one could easily be both.

It's a simple yes or no question: do you believe in a god? If not, then you're an atheist. If you claim to know there's not a god, then you're a gnostic atheist.

Oh, and I'd question why we're even considering it as something to know or not know. We can't know anything from the realm of the supernatural, by definition. Does this mean we have to be agnostic about all supernatural phenomena? Why should I keep an open mind about something for which I have no reason to even consider its existence?

I'm not even asking for proof. Give me the slightest bit of evidence, and I'll move to the "I'll consider the possibility" group.

3. Begging the question.
The believers can't even define their deity, yet they tell us we actively disbelieve in him/her/it ?

It's called begging the question and we shouldn't allow them the assumption that gods exist before debating what atheism is.

I still love asking them why they don't believe in all the other gods. Hee! That always brings some interesting responses.

5. Can you hear the gears
grinding away?

I never liked using the term "free-thinker" but it is appropriate, isn't it?

The believers go shopping for new faiths all the time.

9. Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay,
that's a good idea.
We can keep changing what we call ourselves...
They think they are so clever because they've figured out how to compartmentalize atheists by saying we deny god (begging the question again) and then framing the argument.

We could just make stuff up off the top of our heads. New names, new rules, fake dogma...this could be fun!

10. That would keep them busy Googling new terms!
Of course too much of this and the old "see you are a religion" chestnut would come out.
