But under the circumstances I went looking through old MB threads and that was one that I really liked. Being a neurotic, overweight, lesbian, atheist I naturally have my share of stigma to deal with. Therefore any time somebody goes to the trouble to try to understand, and asks others to do the same, they get brownie points in my book.

To reiterate one my posts from another thread too: This is not about a tit-for-tat exchange of posters from either side. Jim-Bob was a recent troll. Modem Butterfly was one of the funniest and smartest wits on DU and had been here for a long time. That you seem so equaniminous in that regard is disquieting at least. Look Az, I really appreciate your unrelenting rationality and understanding of humanity in regards to believers. But, I think that when it comes at the expense of sacrificing our core values to assuage their irrational fears then we have no cause to bemoan the loss of our first amendment rights. We must stand up for what we believe in or we lose it all. Modem Butterfly did that consistently and she was tombstoned because of it.

I always read MB posts and I would skim threads to see what she contributed. Her posts are a joy to read and her wit and intelligence are unmatched.

Her absence from DU and the A&A Group is a terrible loss.

I wish that I hadn't been driven away from DU in the way that I had, or I will have been tombstoned as well eventually.

After I had 6 straight posts and threads removed under dubious circumstances, I felt that I was being unfairly targeted, as after the first 2, which were indeed threads bitching about unfair treatment and supposedly against DU policy, the last 4 had broken NO policies of DU but were simply deleted in spite for talking back to a mod.

Come to think of it... this post may get deleted as well for similar reasons, but whatever... they already ruined DU for me, so whats another deleted post to add to the list...

But I digress... this thread is not about my tale of woe. lol


MB, I will surely miss seeing your posts, even if it was many times after the fact. I hope your able to find your way back somehow if the spirit still moves you to do so. Take care in whatever you do and keep fighting... no matter what the critics and whiners may say!

Damn, Skinner....was she THAT bad? Is it THAT unacceptable to tell someone they hold dear to things patently irrational?

I don't post in A&A that much although it is a forum i read or at least check daily.
I am as Atheist as any of you and i am just astounded that she has been banned. Hell, how many of the rest of us are on the brink, based on Skinners thread in this forum?

I often read things in other forums that i DESPERATELY want to reply to but i don't, mainly because i don't want to lose my posting privileges.
About 2 years ago after only having been on DU for a few months, i made and off color remark in a thread that i mentioned in the subject line was off-color i KNEW it was off-color but i thought it was a little funny. That one post started a flame war that spilled onto two other threads that together ran a post count up to 350 or so. I thought for sure i was going to get banned, as the vitriol directed at me was unreal although no-one said anything directly to me via PM.
That incident made me realize how touchy some folks are on this board, how serious they take the fucking internet and how much many lack ANY sense of humor. It has made me gun shy, to say the least. Perhaps chickenshit is more accurate.

I admired Modem Butterfly for her not being gun-shy at all and most CERTAINLY not chickenshit.
Now it seems she has had to pay for that. It sucks.

I Joined DU back in '03 and am now just approaching 1500 posts. I do WAY more reading than i do posting and either try and be funny/silly or helpful and informative when i have pertinent knowledge. I have pretty much given up on being controversial or confrontational, even in the presence of overwhelming idiocy. It is, after all, Skinner and EarlG's field, their game and their rules.

I have contributed to DU in the past (Roughly twice a year) and am about to donate again but this incident kind of makes me wonder. Skinner and EarlG have created a wonderful community and i understand they have to have standards and rules, but banning someone like MB seems to me a wee bit like carrying water for the Inmates at the Home For The Easily Offended.
