Poll question: The Chronicles of Riddick (DVD)
Personally, I liked it. It's a sequel to "Pitch Black", which I though was low-budget and lame, and undeserving of a sequel. However, IMHO, "The Chronicles of Riddick" is a much better film. I think Vin Diesel, who plays the main character, is a knuckle-dragger dimwit, but I liked him in this film. The bad guys are an alien death-cult called the "Necromongers", led by the "Lord Marshall" (Colm Feore), and are extremely well done (costumes, sets, back-story, etc.). The film has lots of great action, cool special effects, and a nice pace.

1. actually
I like Vin Diesel. He's got a fun sense about him, even when playing an anti-hero.

The Chronicles were a blast. Yeah, the science is all whacked, but anybody who can accept Star Trek or Star Wars can't complain. It's all Science Fantasy anyway.

2. Vin Diesel gets the shaft alot
He's actually quite intelligent and has a charming wit about him. Vin is unfairly grouped with the unthinking "hunks" out there when he really is quite different. In the past he's admitted to being a high school D&D geek, and he has an deep interest in history. One of his dream projects is to do a film on the life of either Attila or Hannibal (it's early...I can't remember which one it was.)

I haven't seen Chronicles yet, but, since I loved Pitch Black and I know that Chronicles' villains are based on the Religious Right, I plan on seeing it asap.

3. Hmmm. Maybe I'm wrong about him.
I admit, all I've ever seen him in was "The Fast and the Furious" (OMG, that sucked), "Pitch Black", and a "Triple X" preview. There's obviously more than meets the eye if he admitted to being a high school D&D geek, something I have a hard time admitting myself. :)

and immediately added it to my Netflix queue, after reading some reviews. It's just fun, in a silly James Bond way.

6. Good effects, actors, and characters wasted in a convoluted story...
and a RIDDICKulous script. (I'm sure I'm not the first one to come up with that one.)

I like Vin Diesel. I think he's a pretty decent actor, and I really enjoyed him in those frivolous time-wasters xXx and Fast and the Furious. Plus the guy has stated that he has a lifelong love for sci-fi and fantasy, so it breaks my heart that they can't find a decent genre vehicle for him. A decent Diesel vehicle.

This movie was just absurd, and not in a "aw, turn your brain off and enjoy it" way (like, say, the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie), but more in a "how many more poorly lit and edited fight scenes until this fucking thing is over with" way.
