Red Dwarf
The funniest sci fi comedy ever? Could be...

"Those black holes I told you about? Well, they weren't actually black holes... they were grit."

1. I know it's not sci-fi, but did you ever see The Brittas Empire
With Chris Barrie? Truly hilarious, I can't recommend it enough.

2. I've never heard of that. Another British comedy?

3. Yep . He's the incompetent manager of a sports centre
Where, of course, everything that can go wrong, frequently does. It's filled with all the usual quirky characters but it's definitely Chris's baby.

4. I quite enjoy Red Dwarf
I haven't heard much about the film for quite a while.

5. Seasons 1-5, and some of 6...
Season 6 was done partly for the behest of the rabid Americans who were really starting to tune in.

Notice how season 6 tries to feel 'Americanized', especially with the overuse of physical comedy in "Legion", an otherwise decent story.

Seasons 7 and 8 were crap and they have yet to make season 9.

Season 8 was okay at times, but why they made "Pete" a two-parter (it was an overstretched one parter) and the season finale a one-parter (it clearly had enough content for two episodes) is beyond me, except I had heard that was to be the case... "Cassandra", a classic, was the last great stab in Dwarfdom. :-(

And don't get me started on the Battlest Red Dwarf movie.

6. I agree with all your comments
I wish Series 7 & 8 had never been made.

7. I really, really, really loved seasons 1 and 2.
After those two seasons, I felt like the quality went down dramatically. I watched season 3 and then pretty much tuned out after that, only watching it occasionally.

I guess what I really liked about it was the focus on interpersonal relations and dialogue. When it started having a more conventional sci-fi action focus, I kind of lost interest.

My favorite episode: Thanks for the Memories. The one where Lister gives Rimmer the memory of one of his old love affairs.

I also really like Me(2), the one where Rimmer makes a duplicate of himself and then they spend the rest of the time fighting with each other.

8. It's cold outside...
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 02:24 AM by Love Bug
there's no kind of atmosphere
all alone, more or less
let me fly far away from here
fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun
fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun

I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose
drinking fresh mango juice
goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes
fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun
fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun

"Smoke me a kipper -- I'll be home for breakfast!"
