The old VHS tapes I taped off PBS lo those many years ago are finally disintegrating past watchability.

I have been looking and looking and looking, haven't had any luck. Anyone here know a source?

beseechingly,
Bright

1. I ordered mine from amazon.co.uk... but they're region 2... As for R1,
I doubt we'll ever see a R1 release, and I use my PC or multiregion player to view discs anyway, so I'm okay with getting R2 directly.

It's been rumored a R1 release was to come out... back in 2004. Hasn't happened yet. And from what I recall, all 52 episodes on 10 discs, video quality would be very poor. BFS (who sold the second rate VHS tapes) was also to do the R1 release...

Again, directly from the UK. The UK has DVD releases from many shows with extras we don't get in our R1 versions anyway. (e.g. "Death Becomes Her" has quite a lot of goodies on the R2 disc, but not for the R1 release!)

2. grrrrrrrrr.... grrrrrrr.... What AILS them that they can't do a US format version?
It's not like there aren't B7 fans here!

I even requested one of those (ahem) 'informal' duping services to see if they had a copy. Had good luck getting Max Headroom that way, but no dice on B7.

VERY annoying.

Well, thanks for confirming my least-optimistic expectations, anyway.

disappointedly,
Bright

6. Estimated fanbase...
keep in mind, for DOCTOR WHO, the US sales reported by Warner Bros are not very high. UK sales are MUCH higher. :wow:

BLAKE'S 7 was never as popular in America. So I'm not going to hold my breath for a R1 release.

The sad part is, Warner Bros holds an exclusive contract for major UK releases. I'm surprised A&E got hold of "Sapphire and Steel" (and reading the reviews, the R1 set is the best looking/sounding set! :wow: )

3. have you considered...
...getting a Universal format DVD player? This could be a reasonable investment if you want to get non region 1 or PAL format DVDs. If you need an inexpensive multi-region DVD player, I highly recommend Oppo. ( http://www.oppodigital.com ) The DVD-970HD (which I have and love) is only $150, and up-converts to 1080i, which looks excellent on a High Def TV if you have such a beast.

4. Look At A Convention
I'm going to a con this weekend. They usually have DVD dealers there that offer copies of stuff available in the UK, only mastered for US machines. I can get a vendor name, if you like.

5. If you could get a vendor name/e-mail/contact I'd be SO grateful!
I'm not really up to doing cons anymore myself... age and other demands on time have taken their toll. But if you find a source and can provide contact info, I'd be thrilled!

appreciatively,
Bright
