so you can start with your local library. After that, try ebay, then the book stores. Barnes and Noble has a section just for "British TV" in my store, making it easy to find them.
Unfortunately, many of the old episodes are just not on video yet. PBS stations in the 70's and 80's used to run Dr Who every week, and I was able to watch nearly every episode that existed at the time.
You might also try looking around for Dr Who fan clubs on the net. Lots of fans in the 80's video taped from PBS, and you might be able to buy or trade for older episodes. Some local Sci Fi clubs even have screenings of older taped shows that arent available to buy. I was able to watch all of the Colin Baker episodes in the 80's before they showed in the states through a college Dr Who club. Someone had friends in the UK who would tape them directly from the TV by placing a US video camera about 12 inches from the screen - we called it "flicker vision". Club members traded taped shows all the time.
