Any Hyperion/Endymion fans here?
I'm pretty blown away by these series, especially the Endymion books. The first short story/pilgrim's tale in Hyperion, about the priest being eternally crucified, was pretty riviting, though. Any fans?

1. Loved the two Hyperion books; hated Endymion
It seemed pretty clear to me that Simmons ended his tale in the second book. Most things (except for the origin of the Shrike, which, IMHO, was best left a mystery) were wrapped up quite nicely. The Hyperion books are amongst the finest in science-fiction/fantasy.

The Endymion books, however, just seemed to me like an unnecessary second trip to the well. The plot didn't make all that much sense, and unlike the first books, I had no emotional investment whatsoever in the characters.

2. Interesting
I found the second two much more cohesive and character driven, than the first which were (by design) disjointed and a bit confusing. But glad you liked them, too.

Do you think there is any hope for Ilium/Olympos?

3. Ilium has possibilities
I keep seeing it available for the Palm handheld (which is how I like to read books now), and I'm always tempted to get it but haven't taken the plunge.
