Do We Really Need A Plan 9 From Outer Space Remake?

There have been numerous awful science fiction movies produced over the decades. The most notable of these are "Robot Monster", "Starcrash", and at least a dozen Italian, Spanish, and Turkish films that were spawned by Star Wars in the late 1970s'. Out of all these truly dreadful cinematic features, one film has generally been considered to be the worst of the worst, I am, of course, referring to the Ed Wood classic, "Plan 9 From Outer Space". Now that being said, it would really make one scratch his head to learn that somebody has indeed decided to remake it.

This, of course brings up the questions, why? and of course, how? Honestly, how do you approach a remake of a terrible film? Do you pay homage to it by in turn making another horrible movie, or do you go the other way and try to take the films plot and make a decent one? I don't know the answer to that, but we will all find out next September when the film gets released.

1. If they really want to be authentic...

...the star of the movie will only be present through archival footage, and have the remaining scenes shot with a stand-in chiropractor who conceals his face with his cape in the remainder of the movie. :rofl:

What genius green-lighted this remake? I'm not sure, but I think that they are currently working on behalf of the Clinton campaign...

2. That is so wrong on so many levels....They'll have to work very, very hard

to come close to the level of cheapness, sheer incompetence and unintentional humor of the original.

Maybe if they cast Jack Nicholson in the Lugosi role, he dies midway through filming, and is replaced by Adam Sandler.

3. I have long thought that a serious version of Plan 9 could be made

They'd have to do something about the "exploding light" story, but I'd be interested to see a sincere reimagining of the film. Too bad Guillermo del Toro is wrapped up in Hobbit 1 & 2; I bet he'd make an amazing verion of it.

4. I've thought about that as well...

but in my version, the dialog is left untouched. Get your Tom Hanks, Jodie Foster, et al to star and spruce up the special effects. But leave the lines as is (or was).
