I just finished reading Thomas Day's debut novel, "A Grey Moon Over China." It begins in the near future during oil wars in the Pacific, and ends about forty or so years later in a human colony at a distant star system. In between, it's a breath-taking story. It chronicles the life of Edward Torres, an army engineer who steals the plans for a quantum battery, and ultimately leads a revolutionary exodus from Earth.
It is an awesome story. Huge in scope, with excellent characters, and incredibly affecting (that should be obvious from this post). I don't understand everything the author writes about yet, including some of the events the characters play out, but I'm already looking forward to reading it again in a year or two to resolve those lapses of comprehension. There are many, many, tightly interconnected events whose consequences play out over decades and thousands of light years. It's not COMPLICATED, so much as RICH.
I cannot say enough about this book. I also can't wait for Day's next novel!
I hope no one minds me linking to Amazon:
