AICN reports the CW will be making an official announcement Sunday at Comic Con about the rumored "Smallville" sequel-movie out this Christmas called "Metropolis." What's more, people selected at random are being allowed to see the Superman costume, described by one convention goer as, "gobsmackingly awesome! no spandex it looked like leather, its one suit, the top is blue at front and back, red on sides and arms, the trousers are blue at the front and back, red at sides. the superman symbol on the chest protruding out, its red. no cape. it was on a stand we could walk around."
(
wyldwolf: Might it be some variation of a latter Superboy incarnation from DC Comics?)
Another more reliable tipster at AICN says, "Confirming to you the Superman outfit for "Smallville" is real, there is a mad dash to a bunch of Warner reps happening right now. But your previous report is slightly off --the suit makes its on-screen debut in the Season Nine premiere, which is called "Superman".
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41794Mixed, though slightly more positive, feelings about this (mainly because I love the character so much.) I can't imagine a TV network, much less the CW, can do justice to a Superman movies. Still, I like Tom Welling. And Erica Durance's Lois Lane is hot.
My theory about Smallville has always been that the series happens in an alternate timeline (yeah, I thought this up before the latest Star Trek) and that some sort of DC comics-like "Crisis" will happen to set the Superman mythos back on track. A couple of hints were dropped early last season when the Legion of Superheroes arrived and were surprised Clark couldn't fly and had no costume. And, at the end of last season, Lois DID vanish with a Legion of Superheroes time travel ring...
