Just finished "Quest for the Future" by van Vogt. One of the worst books I've ever read.
Mercifully short at ~200 pages, but in that brief span it still managed to be dull, plodding, and vapid.

I checked on wiki, but the novel is mentioned only briefly under van Vogt's main entry. However, it does indicate that the novel was a "fixup," that is, short stories "retrospectively patched together into novels," and Quest for the Future is acknowledged as a case when "this was not successful."

Has anyone else read it? It's my first foray into van Vogt's work, and if I'd heard nothing else about him I'd be inclined to read no further.

Dreadful.
