Veronica Mars
Ok, this show is really interesting.

It's about a school where there's no middle class. As Veronica says in the VO to the opening credit sequence in the first episode, everyone at her school is either rich, or works for them.

The back story is that Veronica's father was once chief of police -- a good, middle class job -- and Veronica was in with the rich kids, not because she was rich, but because she was cute, funny, and not poor, and because class differences didn't matter so much in the past.

Her father got set up -- an investigation he was leading got screwed up. After he got the boot from the police department, his replacement probably convicted the wrong person. Now, her father is an underpaid P.I., and Veronica has to help him out just so they can keep their heads above water. They live in a crappy little apartment. Veronica is no longer in with the in crowd now that she's poor.

Conservatives like to pretend that there are no class differences in America. Liberals like to talk about the obvious class differences in America. This show is about class difference.

It's really interesting.

Anyone else watching it?

1. Yes, I am watching it
The show is very well-written. I like the fact that Veronica is intelligent and has very good investigative skills but is not perfect. She makes the type of mistakes that one would expect a teenager to make. I am also pleased that the writers have made an effort to create complex supporting characters who are very interesting to watch.

2. There was some great dialogue & acting in the last episode...
When Veronica left her friend at the party, she asks if she'll be OK. Her friend says she'll be fine. Veronica turns for the door, then turns back,

"No, you'll be 'super fine'" (which was reference to an earlier scene).

It was super funny.

And the last scene...when she finds her mother...man, that's the kind of drama Lost is missing.

It is too bad that this show is not doing better in the ratings.

5. a guilty pleasure
... or that's what VH1's Best Week Ever called it.
I have to admit, I didn't start watching the show until I read a recap on Television without Pity and thought it looked interesting. But now it's on my "must watch" list. I'm not even embarrassed to admit it anymore. Sure, most of the characters are supposed to be teenagers, but there are genuinely interesting stories.

6. It was a repeat last night.
Since we know the rookie cop is in later episodes, a big part of the mystery wasn't a mystery. But it was still fun.

8. "Veronica Mars, I'm watching you, I see your every move!"
lol Ok, that's a shout-out to whoever the actor was that played the slimy detective in the last ep.

This show is my favorite this season - I am totally hooked. Great acting, great writing, the plot is one of the best murder mystery storylines I've ever seen... and that scares me because if it's funny and dramatic and has great writing, it usually means they're about to cancel it...

9. Veronica Mars is the best show on TV right now, IMO.
And it just got renewed for a second season!

I'm a little behind and am catching up (on episode 14), I've loved every episode so far. Consistently good writing, funny, smart, engrossing, good stuff. And Veronica is one of the best characters on television (it seems like usually the main lead on a show is the boring one for some reason). Kristin Bell has a way of deliviring lines that is so perfect. She can do comedy and drama, she's just plain awesome. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe something so good was on UPN! I mean, really.

11. snausages! *spoiler alert*
Pretty good episode last night. I have mixed feelings about the Veronica - Logan relationship, but I'll reserve final judgment until later. The Mandy character was a little overdone; did she really have to look that pathetic? But by the time she was tasering that guy at the dog pound, she'd at least gotten some backbone. This episode didn't do anything to resolve old issues - re: Veronica's rape, Lilly's murder, etc... I can't wait until next Tuesday.

My favorite lines this week: "If I want you to speak I'll wave a snausage under your nose." and "Would it be weird if I started my own drinking game?"

12. I think we're supposed to have reservations. In fact (maybe a spoiler)...
...I bet Logan was her rapist!

And, by the way, how better to make you have reservations about Logan than to have her break up with the incredibly charming cop and then have the cop help her rescue puppies. Millions of viewers must have screamed at their TV last night, "NOOOO! Stay with the cop!!!!"

15. oh. my. god.
There are no words to express how great that episode was. I've made two new converts in my office. Plus, my husband made me go back to the last two shows that I still have taped and explain the storylines for him. Ha! Can't wait until next week.

16. That was quite an episode. And the preview for next week's show had
more drama in 30 seconds than most 1 hour shows manage over an entire season.

Spoilers:

I will have to admit that, although it was dramatic when Duncan said they were half-siblings, I'll also have to say I was let down by the way the writers backed out of the date rape plot-line, and I really didn't find it interesting that Veronica would have bounced back from that news to embrace Logan so quickly. On top of that, it didn't seem in-character for her to forgive Logan for tha last confession. Before they even showed the movie camera, I was thinking, "she isn't forgiving him, but she's pretending she is in order to set him up because he's the killer." But, no, she discovers the camera and that sends her off, ditching Logan for the second time.

A few more things:

- Very exciting that Veronica's mother is back. I hope she's a big part of solving this puzzle.

- I bet Veroncia and Duncan are not half-sibs.

- I really have no idea who the killer is. I'd lean towards Logan, but I think that's what the writers want you to think, so it won't be him. Maybe Logan's father is the killer and he was having an afair with Lilly which is on video from the guest house? Maybe Logan's mother has something to do with the finale? Maybe she discovered that Lilly was having an afair with her husband and killed Lilly and faked her death to avoid being caught?

- I'm anticipating the finale more than I've anticipated the finale of any TV show other than maybe three Buffy finales.

25. did you catch episode 2?
Wallace got a better story line last night, some good tension between Logan & Veronica, plus, Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) guested as a clerk, which I thought was a nice treat.

26. THAT'S who that was!
I kept thinking "I know that guy"... but couldn't place him...

Joss Whedon is supposed to do a cameo as a convenience store guy, too, soon...

I loved the Wallace storyline! He did such an awesome job! Ms. Mars should be so proud of her BFFE! lol

I like Charisma Carpenter too (as a Joss follower) - my hubby was panting over her bikini scenes; I like her snarkyness...

27. Also
Veronica's father actually went after the Cain family. I think that is what got him recalled from his positions as Sheriff or Chief of Police. Veronica's father thought Lilly Cain's father was responsible for lilly's death. So that is part of why Veronica is not in with the rich crowd. I think it is a good show. This season is going to be interesting and entertaining.
