BIG BROTHER
It all starts tonight. Lets start a pool. How long before CBS gets the houseguests into bikinis and suits for some gratuitous T&A shots. I say before 8:30.

It looks like a good group of houseguests. I have developed a pre-show crush on Sarah, she looks like a sweetie. The picture of Michael on the CBS site is scary. He frightens me. Now that I have said that, he will turn out to be a nice guy and one of the others will be the psycho asshole.

I'll be hooked to the TV set for the next few weeks watching these attention grabbers push for 15 minutes of fame and try to hold onto it for as long as they can.

1. Finally caught up
it's good. I already hate Julie Chen, btw. Who dresses this woman?

Have you checked out http://www.realitynewsonline.com? They do a daily recap of all the live feed stuff from the house. Some spoilers, obviously, but it's fun.

2. I am bored with this season
and there's only been 2 episodes! Probably because I can't keep everyone straight and don't really know their personalities yet. However, if Kaysar goes tonight, I think I might write them all off as a bunch of bigots. "I don't know anyone so I just chose you two, nothing personal" doesn't fly with me when he happens to be Iraqi and happens to be the first one nominated.

I'm having trouble following, but I always do until I can remember the names.

This website also has live feeds. They transcribe them 24-7

( also have a discussion area ) One DUer who will remain nameless posts there... not me but I did recognized the name and then asked.
She says it's a guilty pleasure.

6. I think
the excuse "he/she never made an effort to get to know me" is one of the lamest ever.

What, your feet are nailed to the floor?

This is why I liked one really cool innovation in the British version of Survivor. They didn't have a vote until nearly a week in. By that time, everyone had gotten to know everyone else, or at least had a good chance to.

7. I AM LOVING THIS
I've been out of tiwn since the first episode, but I got back last night and watched episode 2 and 3. This is going to be fun.
I knew everyone would figure out the "secret" that everyone was in a pair. It was not hard to figure out. I'm glad Kaysar was not voted out, because I do think it (his nomination) was based on his ethnicity, but I think he is a pretty bad player and won't last. He should be pissed at Mike for going to Eric, that outed them as a pair. I think he is safe this week. Eric may not trust him, but Eric needs to get rid of the schemers before Kaysar.

I am loving how stupid Howie is. I don;t know if its an act yet, but his flirting and sexist comments are a riot. He will last for awhile because he is such a ham.

The only one I am not liking so far is Beau. He needs to start playign the game. His homosexuality is going to hurt him unless he makes it clear to the men that he is not going to "jump to the other team." The sex thing always comes up early in these games, and if he is seen as someone who goes to the "other side" he may be cut before everyone realizes that sex does not matter. By then the good players have already taken control of the game.

All in all, I love the beefcake and T&A. It will be a fun season and I am looking forward to some other secrets.

8. I can't tell anyone apart
because they all look the same. Ivette (I think that's her name) is getting on my nerves a bit - I don't really know why. I jope they have many surprises to keep it interesting - otherwise every episode is much like the last one.

I can tell Kaysar and Beau apart from the rest. All the rest of the men look the same. All the women look the same -- ok, some are blondes and some are brunettes but within those classifications I can't tell them apart.

10. Ack! That was scary!
Last night when they kept showing people voting (but not the actual votes) and everyone was talking about how Kaysar was a "rat" or was not trustworthy and the girl was not a threat -- I was sure he was a goner. I know the shows usually show that kind of stuff to lead you to believe one person is going when really he/she isn't, but I didn't think it would turn out that way last night!

I was so freaked out that he would leave and when Julie said "Kaysar, by a vote of 9-2... (I cringed here) you are safe"
I think I let out a little scream. Whew that scared me.

I didn't expect that the partners would be people they know from real life. I thought maybe the show paired people up with someone. I think that secret would be easier to keep!

12. Suprises
They always try to pull a surprise with teh voting. I was so sure that Kaysar was getting voted off, and my assurance of his departure was why my wife concluded he must not be going.
BB got me again, but it is usually when I am that positie I am right, that I am proven wrong.
I think it was a mistake to keep Kaysar around, because he should prove to be a good player. Michael, his partner, is a bit dumb. He made some mistakes and it may cost him this week.

I think he is a threat because he appears pretty smart and knows that it is a game, not a dating show. He will do well if he is not picked off early. I think his buddy Michael will go this week., there was some fights in the house this week involving Michael, so watch tonight. I don't want to spoil too much, but it was getting bad in the house.

13. I could not skip Survivor
Big Brother is something I watch in the summer, b/c there is nothing else good on, but I don't think I could give up Survivor. I adore that show. As for canceling "Watching Amy," I find myself unable to get mad at networks for canceling non-profitable TV shows. Even though I, and a few of our DU TV groupies, were huge fans of the HBO series Carnivale, it simply was not getting the revenue in to justify its high production costs. Nonetheless, I'm sorry you lost one of your favorites. I'm sure there will be another good series in the next few seasons to replace it, and she is too talented an actress to be away for long.

20. it is both
we have 4 law and orders, 3 csis and good knows how much junk reality shows. yes the staions need to make money, but smarter entertainment makes smarter people. we wonder why our country is dumbed down - look at what passes as "entertainment". it IS possible to entertain and educate at the same time.

22. Its not about syndication money - its the big picture.
I'm sure you are not suggesting that Les Moonves yanks profitable shows for unprofitable shows. I'm a Viacom stock holder and would be pissed off it that was the case.

To be honest the profitability of Judging Amy can't be viewed independently of the whole network. Judging Amy had a 30 second buy rate in the $100,000 range, which puts it on par with shows like America's Next Top Model and One Tree Hill. While those shows make money for their networks, CBS is expected to produce more money with an hour of prime time than this rate is capable of.

It is also part of a bigger picture. CBS has a chance to reduce its average aged viewer from 51.8 for the 2004-2005 season to under 50. Four of the shows it cut were hurting here (JAG-58.3), (60 Minutes Wednesday - 59.2), (Judging Amy - 53.9) and (Joan of Arcadia - 53.9).
Advertisers spend more on shows that get younger audiences. CBS needs to make profits. They produce great news shows that lose money hand over fist, they need to make it back on the entertainment side.

I'm sorry a show you liked got cut. It is part of an ongoing problem with advertisers ignoring older folks and going for young people and disposable incomes. I don't blame CBS though.

18. was anyone else cringing when those 2 guys talked about Iraq?
Scott (?) and the firefighter? (sorry, I still don't have names down). I was cringing and wondering what Kaysar was thinking about it. And when the Scott guy said something about fighting them over there and not over here, I felt nauseous. And that's when Kaysar left the room. I'm glad he told the Scott dude how it really is over there, but I wish someone had corrected him on the difference between 9/11 and the Iraq war!

And I should learn not to judge someone by how they look (I try not to) -- but for some reason I thought the firefighter would be a big King George fan. Boy, was I wrong.

Good entertainment. Today has been a real bore. One thing they don't show on the TV show is what a really nasty character Eric is.

29. Eric got played
Kaysar set Eric up very well. His plan worked perfectly. Anytime you can remove the strongest player in the house, go for it. It is a gamble, but he put it all on the line. If he is right and Eric gets ousted, he removed his biggest threat and kept the biggest physical threats (Howie and James) on his side. Of course when Beau or someone on the other side wins HOH and nominates two of the new alliance members, the plan will fall apart, just like Eric and James deal fell apart when they had to turn on each other.

The idea of a return is great. The episode was good. James is turning into a solid villian. I feel for Sarah, becase that relationship is doomed and she seems to put more value in it than James.
