The past few years, I've traveled pretty constantly on Sunday nights (8am Monday morning start times for work), so I've been able to watch HBO at various hotels, a friend tapes "Deadwood" for us, and now we rent "Six Feet Under" from the video store (are you catching on that we're a little behind the times technologically?)
We watch WAY too much TV during the year (Earl, The Office, Lost, Boston Legal) and want to try to wean away during the summer, read more, maybe with a baseball game on the radio. I know my SO - if we had cable, he'd be watching it 18 hours a day.
Know some of the history from our trip out to Deadwood and hike through Mt. Moriah cemetary, but not all of it. Know that Seth Bullock had himself buried a good 500 feet above everyone else in town, that Charlie Utter was real, that a decent-sized Jewish population grew up in Deadwood, that Al died years later "getting off a train" and that Jane's end wasn't pretty, but that she did end up back in Mt. Moriah with Bill.
Can't WAIT for future episodes!
(Oh, and every year on Buffy there was a new "Bid Bad" for her to contend with - an uber-vampire, Angel run amok, a Frankenstein-like creature, etc. Fans used to watch the first few episodes to get a hint what this year's Big Bad would be, and I think we all know that in Deadwood, it's Mr. Hearst.)
