Rant -- Smallville is staring to PISS me off. **SPOILERS**

The previews were of Lana saying to Clark "you're
not even human" and come to find out it was part
of Clark's worst nightmare.

It was all a Pamela Ewing dream episode.
GOD DAMN IT.

1. I used to LIVE to watch this show

But this season has just lost me, for several reasons:

1) Lois Lane. The actress is absolutely horrible, and her face is so disfigured by her ghastly nose job that I almost can't even concentrate on anything she says, even if her laughably bad dialog did make sense.

2) Clark's early-onset dementia. When this show first started, Clark was just supposed to be a callow farm boy, but the writers are now confusing "naive" with "stupid". He seems to be acting dumber with every episode. Kryptonite poisoning, maybe?

3) The resurrection and underutilization of Chloe, who I thought had been killed. Allison Mack is the hottest woman on the show, and the ONLY female character in Smallville with personality, wit, and brains. And yet we are force-fed episode after episode featuring the ridiculously melodramatic Lana Lang, who I thought was supposed to be going to school in France.

4) The crumbling friendship of Clark and Lex. It's canon that these guys are supposed to be best friends until something happens and Lex makes Clark his sworn enemy. But now these guys are squabbling over...what? And in all their encounters, Lex comes off as the reasonable guy and Clark looks like a total asshat.

5) The magic Krypton crystals and the caves. I now am completely convinced that this show has fallen victim to "Twin Peaks Syndrome", that dreaded disease that also helped cripple and kill "The X-Files". Twin Peaks Syndrome (or TPS) is when it's become obvious that the writers have no clue what their own elaborate mysteries are all about or how to resolve them, so they're just pulling stuff out of their asses to keep people guessing and collect a paycheck.

The first couple of seasons, I really loved this show. I would speed home from my martial arts class, rolling a stop sign or two, in order to watch it. I would sit there transfixed in my sweat-drenched uniform, starving half to death because I hadn't had dinner and didn't want to leave Smallville long enough to make it. It is only with enormous sadness that I confess to having switched the channels the last two weeks to ABC's Lost, a show which has recaptured my love for mystery and great characters--a love I used to have for Smallville.

2. Another big problem is how old the actors are getting.

There's no way these people should be playing
high schoolers.

And Clark graduates, and then what? Gilmore
Girls figured out how to send Rory off to school
and have her on the show. But Smallville?

3. I'm guessing everyone will go to "Metropolis University"...

or "Smallville Junior College".

But it should happen sooner rather than later. You're absolutely right that these actors are barely able to pass for college kids, let alone high schoolers.

Tom Welling is looking particularly out of place. I think they should have tagged him to play Superman in the upcoming movie. He's actually a very good actor, when he's directed well and has a decent script (which the show hasn't had in a while). And I think Michael Rosenbaum should have been allowed to carry his Lex role over to the big screen, as well. He's a DAMN good actor.
