Looking for portable battery powered TV, digital, for power outages and storms
We have had a small one we have used with just a little antenna. Won't work soon cause it's analog. Hubby has been to 3 stores here, and no one has anything. Best Buy says they did have one online, but couldn't find it.

I have used every search term, and I find others are looking also.

I did find this video about one that looks pretty decent.

Here's the website mentioned.

Most everything I see says it has to be cable ready except that one, and it appears to be about 100 dollars more expensive than our local TV indicated last night to get a decent one.

Any ideas? The TV anchor said in the $150 range, but the stores seem clueless. Is it a matter of waiting for something to come out?

1. I'm wondering the same thing
I have a little black and white TV the size of a brick that runs on AA batteries and has served me well since 1991. It will soon be nothing but a paperweight.

Searching online, I have found nothing but digital portables with two-hour battery packs--that have to be recharged from a wall outlet.

A lot of good that would do in a blackout lasting 24 hours. When that happened in Portland, I just kept replenishing the batteries.

2. Here is one in stock at Radio Shack.
Hubby saw it yesterday in the store. I had called them, and they apparently did not understand my question.

Here is the link. It is about 200 dollars.

I don't know why the local station said price was about 150, haven't seen anything else at all.

Just the one in the OP for $249 and this one at Radio Shack.

3. Yes, that's the one I've seen, too, the one with the battery that
needs to be recharged. Why not make one with replaceable batteries, even C or D or 9-volt cells?

4. Could you replace the chargeable battery with one that isn't?
Just have an extra battery on hand? I know, silly question from a very non technical person. We are thinking about getting it, but it just is so steep.

5. Since I don't expect any power outages till spring
I'll wait and see. You'd still get only four hours out of it, even changing the battery.

6. supersonic has a battery-powered
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 06:18 PM by ellenfl
digital tv that has a battery pack but i have not found any info on the batteries the pack uses. if it takes regular batteries it might be an option but i doubt it will be cheap. btw, there IS a battery powered digital converter available here. with a coupon, the converter and battery pack would be cheaper than any tv now on the market. the problem with the existing digital tvs is that, as stated, they cannot be recharged until your electric is restored . . . which in my experience takes a minimum of 3 days.

if anyone finds any more info, please post it here. if i can buy a converter or tv for this hurricane season, it will guarantee no storms this year . . . murphy's law works (too) well for me! :eyes: .

7. update - the supersonic battery pack is rechargeable lithium
so it would not take regular batteries either. the best option, so far, looks to be the battery-powered converter.
