Chicken or guinea keet? What say you? (3 pics)

We have a new addition to our little family of feathered friends. The kid across the road had to hatch an egg for school but they brought the little guy/gal over here because they thought it was too lonely and needed to be around other fowl. We still have to keep him isolated because of the medicated feed and the fact that when he stuck his head into the chicken pen, he got it pecked pretty good. So he's in a very large dog carrier in the duck pen.

Goes by the name of Rambo. Hey, a ten your old kid named him. LOL Cute as the dickens, tho. He said it was born sometime in April so not really sure how old it is.

Can't really tell what it is, tho. I've looked around at pics of various breeds and it's still up for grabs. I suppose it could be a mix of a couple of breeds. The thing he/she seems to most resemble is a guinea. Any guesses?

Now that I look closer, the guineas do have pretty vivid orange legs and feet. Gotta be a chicken, I guess.

3. Chicken Definately

Probably a cock since it's already showing some comb development.

Could be like a mix of Barred Rock and RI Red?

Also maybe Aracauna. I can't tell from the pic for sure but does it have little head tufts on each side? It looks like it's got green legs like an Aracuana which can be any color.

6. Now that was the one chicken

that I thought it most closely resembled and it does have green legs and feet, so you may have something there.

It may just be the pics but there really isn't much comb development at all. And all of our Jersey Black Giant hens have slight combs. They're 15 weeks old.

12. Black Giants. Had them once. Nice chickens but short lived.

Them and Buff Orphingtons were the shortest lived chickens I ever had. Barred rock the longest.

Any number of breeds that include red, or a mixed breed. My easter egg hens are marked like that.

I've pretty much decided it must be an Araucana or a mix based on the green legs and feet. How goes it with your poultry? Have you read Joel Salatin's "Pastured Poultry Profits?" We don't intend to get into the business of raising them to sell but it has a lot of good solid info for raising chickens that anyone could use.

17. The new nightly ritual has begun.

The poor little guy. He's so lonely because the big girls chase him and peck at him (still presuming gender here.) So we keep him in a very large dog carrier with hay, food, and water at night. During the day when we push the girls off in their tractor, he gets released into the pen, still alone but with lots of room to run around.

Husband has been letting the girls back into the pen for a little while and staying in there to make sure he doesn't take too much abuse and then putting him back in his dog carrier for the night. Hopefully, they will stop pecking at him as he gets a little bigger and they get used to his presence.

These teachers that have these kids take home a fertilized egg to hatch really need to find a way to keep them from being loners somehow. This hasn't been much fun for the poor little one.

18. Chicken - Hatch-McClatchy Variety

These are commonly used for Cockfights in Hawaii, and the Roosters can be very evil to each other.

We had two Roosters get into a fight and one lost. He lost both eyes in the fight, and all we could do with him was make chicken Mole` after we put him down.

Both my wife and I were devastated that they would actually fight to the death like that, but it is very common with this type of breed.

We received a mother hen with 8 chicks that were abandoned and raised them, free range and little oversight. These are very hardy birds if they don't kill each other first.
