We are planning to build a greenhouse connected to our house. Soil

floor. The well is also on that side of the building - anyone know what we should worry about when it comes to polluting our well. How far from the well should the greenhouse be?

2. The only thing that worries me is radon getting into your home.

But I'm not an expert.

A friend of mine had some exposed earth in her basement for a while due to renovations and they had to be careful about radon gas filtering into their house.

Perhaps greenhouses are way different though!

3. Most plants in a green house are in pots.

Very few chemicals from fertilizers will enter the soil if this is your concern.

4. I would build raised beds.

Cedar fence slats are super cheap and make nice boxes.

5. When was the well drilled? If you have the original paper work or info

on the pump, it will tell you the depth of the well. It is probably deep enough that you don't have to worry about it.

7. The biggest worry I would have

is the electric and water line running from the well pump to the pressure tank and to the house. Dig carefully the first time you dig your beds. You also have to be careful when placing your posts for the same reason. If you are careful you can incorporate the well inside the greenhouse just choose what you plant near it wisely.
If you are going to use fertilizers, water you plants well first then fertilize. This helps reduce runoff and enhances absorption of the fertilizer by the roots.
If you are going to use raised beds you may want to think about placing ground cloth inside the beds. Most vegies and flowers only need 6" deep soil to grow in. Tomatoes need deeper soil but you can bury containers with their bottoms cut out in the soil to grow them in to help contain their roots. All of this makes clean up, amendment and rotation inside you beds easier. I would also say that covering your paths with gravel or some other material that drains well is better than leaving it soil. Less mud, earlier to roll wheelbarrows, and much cleaner.
