Eggs

Our dozen chickens are laying 6 a day since several are broody, but we've been finding the weirdest egg recently. They are large and seem really heavy, even for their large size. Brown with speckles and pointy on one end.

Whomever is laying this egg has been laying in the yard, not in one of the nest boxes.

They look like the bottom 2 in this picture (the top one looks like the regular chicken eggs):



MrUP finally had the lightbulb go off in his head while feeding the birds recently. Our kid has bought several turkeys last fall and butchered all but the youngest so she could get larger. She's now a fully mature turkey and we could hatch more except all the boys went away at New Yrs.

1. Be careful. Strange eggs can be a sign of undesirables breeding with your chickens.

Above all, watch for long eared fuzzy guys that show up in the weeks before Easter:
