How to find out which seed companies are corporat owned.
Edited on Sun Jan-02-11 02:31 PM by dixiegrrrrl
Sitting here going thru seed catalogs, got to wondering who owns our seeds of late.
So thought this might be helpful.

So roamed around the web and found a couple of useful sites.

( Seeds of Change is corporate owned now...wahhh.)

I do use Baker Creek Heirloom seeds, mostly.

Ok...for the sites:

This site has a list of seed companies which have signed pledge not use GMO seeds:

( oh, goody, Johnny's Select Seeds is on it)

This site has links to other ways to find the "good" companies:

Happy seed hunting, all!

edited to add:

Just found this:

Seminis is a wholly owned subsidiary of Monsanto Co.
They sell seeds to seed companies.
Here is their web page listing the companies they sell seed to:

1. All the seeds you need can be found through many organic sources
My favorite:
http://www.seedsofchange.com/
Also Etsy.com has a section with tons of seeds at great prices.

2. Sadly, Seeds of Change has not signed pledge to not use GMO seeds
and is corporate owned, by Mars,
"In August 2010, Mars, Incorporated announced that it would close the El Guique farm and move some management to Los Angeles. One farm employee was left as of August 14, 2010. Others were relieved of their jobs without prior notice about August 1, 2010."

Had no idea ETSY has seeds!!!!
What a great tip! Many thanks.
