I'll bet this is one of those times it would help to have some graphics software or something like that where I could just type in the dimensions and let the computer make the drawing.

1. Well, each 1/2 inch square plus the line is 11/16ths....

I don't think it works out to even three or four-foot lengths.

10. I tried again and got 50 squares on the three foot side but...

it does not work out evenly. The 11/16ths works out to be .6875 of an inch. the 4 foot side is about 58 squares.

.1875" (.19) lines with 1/2 inch square spaces in between. The dimensions come out to 47.8" wide by 36.07" high.
